Reality Check

Mar 27, 2025

While teaching children aged 5 to 8, I encountered numerous reality checks. It became evident how much they struggled with the basics across all subjects. For them, learning englihs felt as complex as mastering rocket science in a day. Despite repeating "Ladki English mein girl hota hai" multiple times, the question "Ladki english mein kya hota hai?" would often be met with blank stares.

Simple concepts like the alphabet posed significant challenges. Each week, I eagerly planned to introduce something new, only to find myself revising colors or alphabet once again. What seems like a cakewalk to us feels almost impossible for these kids.

Teachers often fail to attend school or resort to violence as a method of instruction. We say, times have changed, but have they?

Yes, education is now more accessible, and the government is working on building a better infrastructure and employment opportunities for these children. But the question is--- would the quality of education be sufficient to prevent these children from following in their parent's footsteps?

Every child deserves a fair chance to reach their full potential. Yet, we are so consumed by our own lives that we often forget the importance of others. It's easy to quote slogans like "beti Bachao Beti Padhao" or repeat words of wisdom. But taking meaningful action is far more challenging. You don't need to dedicate your entire life to service, but even a small contribution can make a significant impact.

For most of these children, education ends by the 6th or 10th standard as they are forced to start working to support their families. Their responsibilities overshadow their dreams. Education is an investment- it's returns come later, yet society often refuses to wait.

Our world is failing to let these children rise and shine. I assure you, with the right resources and opportunities. they are more than capable of achieving far greater success than we can imagine.
